![]() I still boot up X3 with mods to this day from time to time, when I grow frustrated with X4. This is definitely not just me with rose tinted glasses. I still love playing X4 as the X series has had its own unique gameplay style as a singleplayer empire builder, but let's be honest, not much has changed in terms of the core gameplay since X3, and in many cases X4 feels like a straight up downgrade compared to X3 in some aspects (ship designs, simplifying UI was a double edged sword, overall just straight up game breaking bugs or frustrating bugs). Maybe this will change, but I feel like there's many more options to satiate the space sim urge now than there was back when X3 came out, with games like Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky, etc. Problem is I think the modding community is much smaller for X4 than it is for X3. Lots more we could go into, but personally I feel X4 is very much something I'll stick with Personally I've just accepted we have what we have now and moved on. Highways vs Jump Drives - VERY devisive subject and not one for here really, X3 had Jump Drives, X4 has Highways, whatever your opinion there's an argument the other side also. that also took its time for them to perfect and from memory they even used scripts from players to help out (as they did with Auto traders for example). The controls/orders/targetting and everything related to fleet battles was fine tuned and worked great compared to where we are at here but. The new economic graphs were much needed and am sure they'll add more later to further bring us upto speed vs X3.įleet Battles - Sadly X3 still wins this one currently. I do miss some elements of the UI of X3 but overall X4 is getting there. UI - X4 is imo easier to understand and use, having selections rather than sooooo many shortcuts is much much improved. X3 is 16 years old now, Even the AP expansion is 10 years old.this isn't really a comparison anymore and that would be purely nostalgia. (Terrans grab Getsu, HOP go for Flashpoint & the Xenon etc etc) having more neutral sectors would probably give more flavour in that regards. At the minute with no real expansion spaces the games often take the same feel. However it did have LOTS more neutral sectors which for X4 would be amazing as would allow fluid takeovers by factions (and players) and allow a completely dynamic different world on every playthrough. X3 had MORE sectors, but at the sametime you couldn't "really" take them over without Mods, and NPC's couldnt be wiped out as they spawned indefinately. There's lots of comparisions to X3 vs X4 lots though are now out of date and as ALWAYS personal preference as to what the player wants. Humm X3 player here and like the two other members now, I've not played X3 again for sometime now, X4 is at a standard of a good game now and I see no reason to go back to X3 now. ![]()
